That all changes when Yusuke is killed while saving a little kid. He is given a second chance by the son of the ruler of spirit world. If Yusuke can properly nurture a spirit egg, it can hatch into a beautiful beast that will help him return to the living, but too much negative energy, and he will produce a monster who will eat him. That all goes to waste when he uses the same egg to save someone from a burning building.
He is later brought back to life and given the title of spirit detective by Koenma. That means it’s his job to track down the evil spirits roaming the human world.
Later on in the anime he wins over his old rival Kuwabara as well as the good natured Kurama and bad tempered Hiei. Together they work to protect the human, spirit and demon worlds from evil.
In this anime you will see Yusuke’s transformation from a selfish thug to one of the good guys, even with a few false steps and lots of fighting along the way.

1. To cosplay or not to cosplay?

It’s completely up to you if you want to cosplay (costume play) or not. If yes, then you will need about a month in advance, depending on your outfit, to prepare. If this is your first or second time I would suggest going for something simple.

Team Rocket from Pokemon or a simple Studio Ghibli character would be your best bet. You can go as something a bit more complicated another year.

You may need to take some small supplies with you. For example, if you are wearing tights, then bring a clear nail polish to prevent them from laddering. Also you may need to sew something back on to your outfit if it breaks, a small hotel sewing kit will do the job.

2. Wear comfortable shoes.

You may not be able to avoid wearing uncomfortable shoes depending on your outfit, but if you are going to be on your feet for the better part of the day you will want to take care of them. For this reason I would suggest wearing flat or worn-in shoes for the day.

3. Charge up your camera.

You will be taking a lot of pictures. There will be people in costume everywhere and I am sure you will recognise at least some. Plus there is almost always spots where you can get your picture taken with a famous vehicle or person.

4. Make your own lunch.

If you are out all day you are going to want to eat, and depending on where your convention is, it could be very expensive to buy food. Taking a lunch will leave you more money to spend inside the convention and will save you time queuing. Always bring plenty of water with you, you may get very hot in your costume or just walking around, and this could make you dehydrated.

5. Take out spending money.

Give yourself a budget, unless you are made of money you will not want to be spending so much you cannot afford to eat. Whatever that budget is, take the money out- you will probably need to pay in cash anyway.

6. Print up a program.

Every large convention should have its own program, and this can usually be looked at online, close to the day. Print this off and circle all the things, and people you want to see. It would be horrible to find out something you really wanted to see was on and you missed it!

7. Pack your bag.

This is one of the most important things to do. Packing a bag the night before will save you so much stress in the morning. Make sure you have your tickets to get in, train tickets(if needed), and all the things mentioned above.

8. Get a good night’s sleep.

If you live far away from the convention you may need to get up very early to get there. If this is the case then I suggest getting a good night’s sleep, you will thank me later.

If you do go to a convention in the future, then good luck! You will have the best time, and following these steps will make it stress free (Don’t hold me to that)!

Whether you need a gift for Christmas, a birthday or other occasion, anime fans can be hard to buy for, especially if you know little about the world known as “anime”. First, let me explain a little about it. Anime is a type of animation that started in Japan. Basically, you can call it a Japanese version of cartoons. However, it has some big differences. Where American animation tends to be geared primarily towards children, there are actually many types of anime, geared for many ages and interests. For instance, there are series targeted squarely at young boys, young girls, young women and so on. There are also adult series, with more adult themes and content. There are also many different thematic styles of anime, including those centered around robots (called mecha), romantic series, fighting series, school life series and so on.

In order for you to choose a fantastic gift for the Japanese animation fan in your life, you first need an idea of what anime series or at least what kind of theme they enjoy. Find out by perusing their DVD collection or checking what they watch on TV. Once you know the series they like, here are some suggestions for surefire gifts for any anime fan:

Manga

Manga is simply the Japanese version of comic books or graphic novels. Many anime series are based on a manga series. Any anime fan would love the original manga their favorite series is based on. For original Japanese manga, you can usually find some on eBay and at Japanese importers like JustManga and Manga.com. For the most popular series, like Inuyasha, you can find English translated manga books at many major bookstores.

Live Action and Japanese Drama DVD’s

Some anime and manga series have a live action version, like Sailor Moon, that a Sailor Moon fan would likely be interested in. If they seem interested in Japanese culture, then consider getting them some Japanese TV drama series. There are many Japanese drama series aimed at tweens and teens that usually take place in school or high school. Check out Nodame Cantabile, Hana Yori Dango and Gokusen, each was based on anime or manga series or both. Look for these series at places like YesAsia and on eBay. Make sure to get the English subtitled versions.

Toys

Some anime series, like Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion and others, have many toys available. If you really want to get a special gift, try to get some of the toys that are imported from Japan. Toys available include action figures, vehicles, stuffed toys, models and dolls. You can find toys for the most popular series at major toy stores, but for not so popular series, try eBay, YesAsia and other import websites.

Video Games

Many of the most popular anime series like Naruto, Inuyasha and Bleach also have video games based on them. This is a great gift idea since what fan wouldn’t want to play a game as their favorite character? Make sure to find out what game system they have so you can get a game for their particular console or handheld.

Music

Many anime fans become interested in Japanese culture through anime, especially since popular Japanese artists and bands are used on the soundtracks to the majority of series. You can get them the soundtrack to the series or even a few JPOP or JROCK CD’s. JPOP and JROCK is the abbreviation of Japanese pop and Japanese rock music. Find many artists at both YesAsia and eBay. Popular Japanese music artists include Ayumi Hamasaki (pop), Utada Hikaru (pop/R&B), Arashi (pop boy band), L’Arc-en-Ciel (rock band), Morning Musume (pop girl band) and many more.

Collectibles & Decorative Items

There are also many collectibles and decorative items available for some series. Consider animation cells, limited edition toys, photo albums, calendars, posters and more. Find these at YesAsia and eBay.

Clothing & Apparel

Some anime fans enjoy dressing up as their favorite character, this is called “cosplay”. Try to find out who their favorite character is and get them a costume or accessories. For instance, an Inuyasha fan would love a necklace like the one Inuyasha wears or a play sword like he uses. Or go all out and get them a full costume just like their favorite character. One place to check out is CosplayMagic.com.

Language Books or Software

If your anime fan has a serious interest in Japanese culture, then consider getting them a book or audio learning set to help them learn, read and write Japanese. This is an excellent gift option if you’re having a hard time finding gifts from their favorite anime series. This is also a gift you can feel good about, since learning a new language is a very valuable skill for their future.

Food

From sushi to Pocky, if they have an interest in Japanese culture, they might like to try some of the food they have seen consumed in animes and dramas. Some suggestions include a sushi making kit, Japanese candy and gum, Pocky (a pretzel covered with chocolate), strange flavored Japanese versions of candy bars like KitKat and more. You can find many types of Japanese candy at AsianFoodGrocer and other Japanese food import sites

Anime has become a phenomena. More and more Anime series and movies come out each year and the population of Anime fans around the world keeps on increasing as well. Also, the popularity of a particular Anime title that became a hit TV series usually lasts for years. Eventhough the show has ended on the TV station where it was aired, fans will search for their own copies of the series and watch it over and over. One might be wondering: What’s the secret behind Anime’s success? What does Anime have that often cannot be found in its Western counterparts? In this article, I’ll try to point out some of the key factors behind the success of Anime.

Exciting action and complexity draws out a wider range of viewers.
While cartoons, that were made in Western countries mainly targets children as its main audience, Anime, on the other hand, targets a wider range of viewers. As a matter of fact, a big part of the die-hard Anime fan population are teenagers and people in their early to mid 20′s. In most cases, while children enjoy the spectacular actions and fight scenes, adults and young adults appreciate the complexity of the story and its emotional content. Most Anime series are mixes of comedy, action, and drama.

Main characters grow and develop their abilities as the story progress.
Unlike in most western cartoons, wherein once the hero has established its character there’s a little room (often none) for improvement, Anime characters grow as the story goes along. A good example would be the “Dragonball Z” characters where they even use “power levels” to show the improvement in a character’s fighting skill. In the sports Anime titles “Slam Dunk: Team Shohoku” and “Hajime No Ippo”, the main characters learn different techniques in every match. Often, the most exciting moment in an episode of an Anime series, is when the villain and the other characters are surprised by the hero’s new ability.

Making the viewers watch out for the episodes to come.
Most Anime series manage to get the viewers “hooked”. By purposely keeping the story hanging at the end of every episode, viewers tend to watch out for the next and they would never want to miss out and episode. On most action Anime series, the battle between the hero and the villain lasts for several episodes while keeping each episode different from the other.

Although there are more reasons why fans keep going after their favorite Anime titles, we’ve pointed out three of the most common factors. (1) It can attract more viewers because it purposely targets a wider range of audiences. (2) The way the Anime characters grow and improve provides more excitement to the viewers. This is also one of the key factors behind the success of Role-Playing Games (RPG). And finally, (3) viewers are attached to their favorite series because of the way Anime writers intentionally ends every episode by not giving a definite conclusion to the story.

So I wanted to support the show and eventually buy the official dvds. The Naruto series is based on the manga of the same name by Masashi Kishimoto. The Season One, Vol. 1 dvd box set contains the first 25 episodes of the series(both in English and Japanese with subtitles). The story is about a 12 year old boy named Naruto Uzumaki who is fighting for acknowledgement from his village and more. When he was just an infant, the 4th Hokage sealed the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox (Kyuubi in sub) inside of him to protect the villagers. The sealing took the 4th’s life. Now, despite the fact that the 4th wanted people to regard him as a hero, everyone looks down on him, thinking that he is the demon fox that took there loved ones lives and etc. The kids of the village don’t know about this, but they look down on Naruto too simply because everyone else does. As the story progresses, it follows Naruto’s achievements and failures as a ninja and the other characters lives too. In part two, (Naruto Shippuuden) the story plot does move slowly, but that’s just because they don’t have enough manga yet! Naruto is funny, sad, has lots of twists and turns, and can make you angry at times. I’d say it’s one of the best animes I’ve seen so far I’d recommend watching it . Naruto on Hulu
